Camrose Economic Highlights
- Building permit values have topped $91 Million in 2007. Our average yearly permit value over the past five (5) years has been about $29 Million.
- The University of Alberta has assumed control of Augustana University College and plans are underway to increase enrolment to 2000 students. A capital expenditure of $40 Million is planned in the next five (5) years.
- Westend retail shopping includes Wal-Mart, Staples, Safeway, Pennington's, Warehouse One, Lammle's, Payless Shoes, The Source, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollarama and more.
- Construction is now complete on a new $29,000,000 sport development centre. The facility features a 2500 seat spectator arena, a 400 seat arena, fitness centre and office facilities. The building adjoins the existing 1500 seat arena and 9 sheet curling arena. The new structure will also join with the Aquatic Centre; all located in Rudy Swanson Park surrounded by lighted soccer, football, baseball and tennis facilities.
- The new Valleyview Residential Subdivision is the jewel of residential locations in Camrose. Features include view lots overlooking a pond and the Stoney Creek Valley. Several lots accommodate walk-out basements, and the entire subdivision features a park-like level of landscaping.
- The Ramada Inn is now open in west Camrose next to Superstore and across from Wal-Mart. The hotel features 77 rooms and a waterslide. In front of the hotel is a new restaurant called O'Shea's. A Super 8 of similar design has now also been completed. A 79 room Holiday Inn is planned in Camrose East.
- The Camrose Resort Casino opened in June of 2007. An adjoining hotel and convention centre is in the planning stage for development in 2008.
- Camrose is pleased to welcome several private residential lot developers who provide nearly 800 lots of all types to choose from.
- Shaw Pipe Protection has opened a new state-of-the-art pipe coating plant in Camrose on a recently acquired 130 acre site adjacent to their existing coating facility, to increase the capacity of the existing Camrose coating plant. This plant will significantly reduce lead times, meet the growing demand for insulated pipelines in the Tar Sands region, and also enable other Alberta facilities of Shaw Pipe Protection to become more focused and efficient. A third $11 million plant is planned for 2008.
- Camrose East commercial & light industrial subdivision is located on the east entrance of Camrose along Highway 13. The Camrose Casino Resort is the eastern anchor with new facilities already opened by Camrose Chrysler, Tim Horton's, Fountain Tire and several others.
Camrose is a community of 16,000 people and is poised for continued solid growth through local industries and services, plus its close proximity to Edmonton. It is the major economic hub for a greater population of 140,000 people, and is but an hour's drive of 750,000-strong Edmonton.
